Redstone Creek Bridges
Roadway and bridge design were provided for the realignment of over one-half mile of road for safety improvement and two new bridges for Larimer County, Colorado. The work included surveying, hydrology and hydraulics, geotechnical investigation, environmental clearances, coordination with the canal company, roadway design and bridge design.
Structure No. LR 38E-0.1-25E over Redstone Creek is a two span precast bulb-tee girder bridge, approximately 40 feet wide and 180 feet long. The hydraulics design required rechannelization of Redstone Creek and its tributary, which carry 10,680 cfs during the 100-year event. The tributary carries only 1,000 cfs but was steep and constantly eroding the roadway embankment. A series of drop structures were installed to reduce the erosion.
Structure No. LR385E-1.0-25E over the Charles Hansen Feed Canal is approximately 40 feet wide and 80 feet long. Close coordination was required with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District since this canal feeds Horsetooth Reservoir.
