Fossil Creek Trail Underpass

LONCO, Inc. designed an underpass for the Fossil Creek Trail in Fort Collins, CO. This project involved using one cell of an existing three-cell box culvert that conveyed Fossil Creek under College Avenue. Retaining walls were constructed on both sides of College Avenue that joined with an interior wall of the existing culvert. These walls kept the flow from Fossil Creek in the other two cells of the existing culvert, permitting use of the trail except during extremely high flows. Undulating tops of the walls allowed water to spill into the trail giving a warning of impending flooding.
