Eagle County Road 301 Bridge Replacement

Eagle County Road 301 Bridge Replacement

Eagle County Road 301 (Colorado River Road) crosses the Colorado River approximately 8 miles north of Interstate 70. The existing bridge was a single lane structure that was constructed in 1966. In addition to the functional deficiency of a bridge limited to a single lane, the structure also had structural deficiencies. The approach roadway also made a sharp turn at the west abutment, which greatly limited sight distance and driving speed. With all of these deficiencies, the County clearly had many reason for wanting to replace this structure.

LONCO worked with the County through numerous alignment options to identify the preferred roadway alignment. The selected alignment minimizes construction cost, right-of-way acquisition requirements, improves the design speed and allowed the existing bridge to remain open to traffic throughout the construction phase. The selected structure alternate is a three-span configuration. The superstructure consists of precast concrete bulb-tee (BT42) girders with a concrete deck. The bridge is 218-feet from back face of abutment to back face of abutment.

The roadway was opened to traffic and the County held the ribbon cutting ceremony on September 14, 2010 to celebrate the successful completion of the project.
