Installation Of Dynamic Message Signs, Closed Circuit Cameras and Non-Toll IPASS Readers
LONCO, Inc. was contracted by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to design the installation of ten (10) non-toll IPASS readers at various locations system wide. Furthermore, the project involved the installation of five (5) Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTV), at various locations. The intent of the project was three-fold, to increase the amount of information collected throughout the system (by the installation of non-toll IPASS readers) and thereby more accurately calculate travel times on the system; to more accurately determine the severity of incidents on the system (via the installation of the CCTV); and to better communicate with the traveling public via the new DMS signs.
The scope of work was performed along the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) in Lake and Cook Counties; the Northwest Tollway (I-90) in Winnebago, McHenry and Kane County; and on the Reagan Memorial Tollway in Lee, Ogle, and Kane Counties. The data collected and disseminated from the various pieces of equipment was required to seamlessly integrate and communicate with the Tollway’s Traffic and Incident Management System (TIMS) LONCO, Inc., along with our Subconsultant Team of Lin Engineering and Dusable, Inc., prepared a complete set of construction documents for the work. Due to budget constraints, only the installations of the DMS Signs have been undertaken at this time.
