CCD Three Bridge Rehabilitation

LONCO, Inc. was contracted by the City and County of Denver to prepare construction documents for bridge rehabilitation at three locations. The three locations are University Boulevard over Cherry Creek; 1st Avenue over Cherry Creek; and Quebec Street over Airlawn Road. The three projects included expansion joint replacement and repair; and bridge rail replacement and concrete repair. The three projects also included substructure concrete repair and bearing stabilization. In addition to the structural work, was the need to phase the repairs to accommodate traffic and the development of traffic control plans. The University Boulevard project also included the design of a custom traffic signal foundation. The traffic signals were upgraded to accommodate the future needs of the facility, as well as phasing requirements during the rehabilitation construction. A custom design allowed the traffic signal foundation to be retrofit into the side of an existing retaining wall. This solution allowed minimum impact to pedestrian accommodation while supporting the large mast arm that the design required.
