Minergy Silo Base
LONCO, Inc. participated in the design of the Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant, owned and operated by Minergy Corporation of Wisconsin. This cutting edge Glass Aggregate Technology solved a significant sludge disposal problem for 12 paper mills, while producing two high-demand products: steam and glass aggregate, while improving air quality. The plant processes 350,000 tons of wastewater solids annually, and produces process steam for an adjacent paper mill and glass aggregate, a glasslike substance used in the construction industry. Silo safety has been a serious concern in this country for many years. Since the majority of Silo's erected in the United States are unloaded from the bottom, maintenance staff are required to 'burrow in' to repair the unloading system if there is a malfunction. This procedure can expose personnel to a potentially dangerous situation. LONCO, Inc. in conjunction with the owner developed a silo design that incorporated a permanent access walkway tunnel around the base, which allows for repairs to be made in a safer manner.
