Central Plant Complex Denver International Airport

Central Plant Complex Denver International Airport

The Central Plant Complex is a 50,000 square-foot multi-level heavy industrial plant containing the mechanical and electrical equipment needed to produce chilled and hot water for heating and cooling the airport terminal and concourses. The structure consists of 40-foot tall, heavily reinforced concrete frames buried beneath 18 feet of roadway embankment. Extending 50 feet above this sub-grade structure are 10 pre-cast concrete cooling tower cells with ceramic tile fill which supply condensed water to the chillers. Beneath the sub-grade structure is a 15-foot deep buried holding tank, which contains 300,000 gallons of water from the cooling towers. Underground tunnels at this level carry the large piping runs required for distribution of the hot and chilled water generated by the plant to all areas of the airport. LONCO was responsible for design and construction phase services for all of the underground reinforced concrete structures and the pre-cast concrete cooling tower structures.
