US Route 6 Location Design Study

William Epp (Project Principal), Michael Yanku (Project Manager) and Leon Shapiro (Project Engineer) contributed to this project that required civil and environmental engineering services, land surveying, transportation engineering, structural engineering, and hydraulics studies for the improvement of US Rte 6 from US 52 to the Grundy County line, a distance of 11 miles. Improvements include the widening of roadway from two to four lanes, performing alignment and right-of-way studies, geometric analysis, pavement design, drainage/hydraulic studies, intersection design studies, environmental studies (ECAD; air quality, noise, wetlands, hazardous waste, socioeconomic, historical, etc). Project included the inspection, analysis, stream surveys, and preliminary design for replacement/rehabilitation of five structures as well as extensive coordination with the public, the City of Joliet, Village of Channahon, Village of Rockdale, Will County highway Department, various Townships and the Federal Highway Administration. The estimated construction cost for this project was $55.1 million.
